| Description | This target was included in the CN November 24 EAA Challenge. It is an extremely faint planetary nebula at magnitude 15, close to the limits of what you can achieve using EAA with less than an hour's capture time. It was discovered by American astronomer Rebecca Jones who was conducting a photographic survey at the Harvard Observatory in 1941. While I could see the two bright "wings" of this target (as dim shadows) almost immediately, I had to stretch this substantially using SharpCap's display histogram pushed to improve brightness along with a high stretch mode. This photograph benefits from heavier than usual processing in Affinity Photo including both curves and mono-RGB stretches, plus a levels adjustment to darken the background. |
