Mons Hadley, a Masif

Mons Hadley is a massif at the northern terminus of the Montes Apenninus, and close to the Apollo 15 landing site.

Observer Comments

Target DescriptionMons Hadley! A massif, or an isolated group of mountains that stands at the junction of Mare Imbrium and Mare Serenitatis, and at the northern extreme of the Montes Apenninus. A resonant name that triggers personal memories of the moon landings. The Apollo 15 astronauts explored near here in July, 1971, less than a month after my graduation from high school. By then, moon landings were somewhat "old hat", but I was a fan and followed all of the missions closely.
Image Capture DescriptionThis is another of my "library" photos, captured because it was a nice crisp view of the moon on an evening I was observing with the Seestar from my rear deck.
