| Description | On the surface this seems like an M51 clone; then you look closer and see a long tidal tail emanating from NGC 2535. Arp remarks: "Arm opposite comp. extremely long." Recent studies have suggested that the "long arm" was caused by a close fly-by, and that the two galaxies are in the middle of a second pass. The interactions stimulated new star formation. Cut short because the full moon was getting higher, and I didn't think additional integration time would help much. |
