| Description | The Sculptor Pinwheel Galaxy was discovered on 5 August 1826 by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop observing from Australia. It's a handsome spiral, close and bright, and thought to be gravitationally bound to NGC 55. It's on the line of sight to the Sculptor group, but probably too far away to be properly classified as part of it. This was the second capture during my trip to Savannah, GA and Tybee Island. I took advantage of my sister living in Savannah, GA, and packed my Seestar, in order to be able to capture these images and complete my Astronomical League Caldwell certificate. All of the higher numbered Caldwell objects in this submission were captured from the Savannah area. |
