| Description | Locked onto this because it was bright enough and far enough from the moon to image well, quickly. At one level, just another Messier open cluster. In this case, Messier added the listing in 1771, but with the RA incorrect, off by 5°. Caroline Herschel, sister of William, was the first to publish the object with the correct location in 1783. |
