| Description | C3 is a surprisingly challenging object, discovered by William Herschel in 1793. Categorized as a "Magellanic" spiral, which is a new term to me: it means "one armed". This is another galaxy that could have been an Arp Peculiar Galaxy, but isn't. The "one arm" is at the far side, and much lower surface brightness than the core (certainly) and the rest of the disc as well. So it's hard to see without sufficient integration. My final image processed in Affinity photo does show it reasonably well. The inverted image in the gallery does an even better job. |
