Pair of galaxies ID’d by Arp and extensively studies as a case study in galactic evolution.

Two galaxies interacting. A round galaxy which we view face-on, and an elongated spiral, nearly orthogonal to it.

A challenging dwarf in the local group. Used to perfect techniques for measuring distance using Cepheid variable stars initially discovered by Henrietta Levitt.
