Observations>Telescope Objects>Craters ~14 Days OldReiner Gamma: A Swirl
The Moon's most visible swirl, and its most mysterious object class.
Observer Comments
| Target Description | Reiner Gamma looks a lot like a tadpole swimming from the shore of Oceanus Procellarum. It's the most easily visible example from a mysterious class of objects called a swirl (who knew?) which are mostly characterized by magnetic anomalies. Apparently, different instances look quite different from the surface. I was happy that it was (just) visible in my full moon library image. |
| Image Capture Description | This full moon image was an opportunistic capture with my Seestar on a clear night with good visibility. At the time I was not contemplating the AL Lunar Program. |
