Rupes Altai: an Escarpment

The most prominent lunar escarpment.

Observer Comments

Target DescriptionRupes Altai is the most prominent lunar escarpment. What's an escarpment? It's a slope formed due to faulting or erosion. In this case it extends nearly 480km.
Image Capture DescriptionThis was an unexpected break... the weather forecast was for clouds, and earlier in the evening it had been clouded over. But as I was turning off the lights to go to bed, I discovered it was clear. So, out came the Seastar, and I was able to capture it almost precisely at Quarter Moon.
