DescriptionThe Western Veil nebula is my favorite, particular the object at the top of this image. Its semi-official name is the "Witch's Broom Nebula", though I've always thought it looked more like a seagull arcing over the loop. You can also see part of the much fainter center structure known as "Pickering's Triangle". The CN September 25 Challenge was the excuse to revisit this favorite target, taking advantage of my new 2600mc camera, allowing me to image the full Cygnus Loop with the 270mm configuration of my Askar V. Applied some fairly sophisticated processing to the stretched .png including NoiseXTerminator and star reduction... I've included both reduced and original star images in the gallery, You obviously see the Veil more clearly with stars minimized, but you miss the larger point about where it's located so close to the galactic center when you do that. Two other visits linked in Related Observations. As this is a favorite Star Party target, I've visited it countless more times.
