DescriptionNGC 3201, was discovered by James Dunlop in 1826, It features an unusual, highly retrograde orbit, suggesting its origin might be extragalactic: i.e. the core of a dwarf galaxy absorbed into the Milky Way. Imaged from just outside of Savannah, GA on a recent visit designed to allow me to capture a number of southern Caldwell targets (further south than C68). This appears as a lovely globular cluster captured at about 10° elevation nearing 5 AM. If you compare to C87, the difference between 10° and 3° elevation is significant.
