| Description | This is another James Dunlop discovery, and the most southern target I've succeeded in capturing (barely) at 3.1% elevation. I was imaging over a marsh, so had nearly 100% horizon. This was captured just past transit, but so low that the Seestar plate-solving failed, which is why the target appears off-center in the full frame (see gallery). Most of what my image shows is the bright core of the GC... along with a small amount of the body, turned green by the atmosphere. Captured from just outside of Savannah, GA, near Tybee Island, on a recent visit designed to allow me to image a number of southern Caldwell targets (further south than C68). During my planning, I'd hoped to capture 5 Caldwell targets on this trip; all above 10% elevation. In the end I managed 8, with this the lowest. Astronomy.net's plate solving is failing as well, so I can't provide an annotated image or my typical star-map. The one provided was generated in SkySafari 7+ set at the time of capture. |
