| Description | Discovered by John Herschel in 1825, within 5° of the celestial pole. Because it's so far above the galactic plain, it is subject to reduced gravitational forces, allowing it to stay together as one of the oldest known open clusters, estimated at 6.8 billion years. I originally imaged it as part of Nov '23 CN EAA Challenge. |
