DescriptionDiscovered by William Herschel in 1786. The Cat's Eye Nebula is significant in astronomical history, as it was the first to be observed with a spectroscope, by William Huggins in 1864. This proved it was made of glowing gas, not stars. This observation should have been a straight forward capture on a "clear" night. But a layer of high clouds was illuminated by a 96% moon, which blurred details. This 10m30s intermediate capture was actually better than the 40m capture I completed.
