| Description | This is one of a number of southern Caldwell objects discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop. He observed from Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, between 1823 and 1827, creating one of the first catalogues of southern nebulae, clusters, and double stars. NGC 1851 was discovered in 1826. My image was captured from just outside of Tybee Island, near Savannah, GA, on a recent visit designed to allow me to image a number of southern Caldwell targets (further south than C68). |
