Recent Observations
Herewith, a database of every observation I’ve ever made, most recent first! Click for more detail, or on the page links at the bottom to review more, 12 at a time, in descending chronological order…
C71 / NGC 2477
A beautiful open cluster nearly the size of the full moon!
C87 / NGC 1261
Captured on a prayer at 3.1° elevation.
C73 / NGC 1851
A handsome globular cluster captured from Tybee Island near Savannah, GA
C70 / NGC 300
A handsome spiral galaxy observed on my trip to Savannah GA
C72 / NGC 55
An irregular dwarf galaxy (or two) and my first capture on a challenging night using my Seestar near Savannah, GA.
Arp 304 / NGC 1241 and 1242
Two interacting galaxies, but the only “peculiar” aspact is one arm sticking out slightly.
Arp 290 / IC 195 and 196
Obviously not “wind” but it sure looks like it.
Arp 276 / NGC 935 and IC 1801
Two “interacting” galaxies, according to Arp. Note he hates saying “merging”.
Arp 92 / NGC 7603
A cornerstone of Arp’s “Intrinsic Redshift” debate. The companion galaxy has a very different redshift, and in 2001 two Spanish astronomers discovered 2 quasars perfectly aligned in the filament (not visible in my or Arp’s original capture)
NGC 2715: a Vera Rubin Galaxy
Sixth of 20 galaxies in Vera Rubin’s famous research paper from 1980 analyzing galaxy rotation postulating Dark Matter
NGC 1035: a Vera Rubin Galaxy
Fifth of 20 galaxies in Vera Rubin’s famous research paper from 1980 analyzing galaxy rotation postulating Dark Matter
NGC 1087: a Vera Rubin Galaxy
Fourth of 20 galaxies in Vera Rubin’s famous research paper from 1980 analyzing galaxy rotation postulating Dark Matter
